The Department of Science and Technology (DST) seeks to boost socio-economic development in South Africa through research and innovation. To achieve its goals, the Department provides leadership, an enabling environment and resources for Science, Technology and Innovation. SANSA promotes the use of space and cooperation of space-related activities in South Africa. Mintek is South Africa’s national mineral research organisation specialising in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy and related areas. Its mandate is to serve the national interest through research, development and technology transfer; to promote mineral
technology and to foster the establishment and expansion of industries in the field of minerals and products derived therefrom. Mintek works closely with industry and other R&D institutions and provides service testwork, process development and optimisation, consulting and innovative products to clients worldwide.

The HSRC is a statutory research agency that is conducting cutting-edge public research in areas that are crucial for development.
